In 1980 Paradisia Nurseries was started by  Jeno and Attila Kapitany as a hobby business. Tom Kapitany joined the business in 1982.

From our humble beginnings in 1980 offering surplus collection plants at the Caribbean Market, the interest in our products was far more than we expected, so by 1984 we began looking for a retail site.

Collectors Corner was opened in September 1985.

The property underwent a major rebuild in 1988 changing it into the current building.

The creation of Collectors Corner has allowed us to amass an amazing array of rare and unusual items under the one roof. 

​

Collectors Corner is not just a plant nursery.  As the name implies it is a haven for collectors and includes incredible ranges of Gems, Fossils, Meteorites, Sea Shells, preserved insects as well as a vast array of plants. The majority of the plants we sell are grown in our own production nurseries.

​

In 1998 the demand  for our gemstones and minerals was so great that this evolved into a separate wholesale business "Crystal World"  now operated by Tom Kapitany.  Through Crystal World we operate a number of mining interests across Australia and sell Gems, Minerals and Fossils throughout the world at various international gem shows.  Crystal World now operates as a separate business from its site in Devon Meadows and is a popular destination for gem lovers.

Attila left the company in 1999 to start a career writing and publishing books. He has also created an internationally known succulent garden in Narre Warren North.  This is open to the public a weekend in September each year.

​

In 2011 "The National Dinosaur Museum" in Canberra came under our umbrella, with  Jeno and Tom being part of a group who now own and manage the site. The National Dinosaur Museum is a popular tourist destination located in the Gold Creek tourist precinct in Nicholls, A.C.T. 

 

Our Gems, Fossils and Mineral displays can now also be seen in our national capital and will continue to be expanded over the coming years. 

The expansion into the museum may explain why people keep seeing dinosaurs roaming around the nurseries.
